The first Asiawater Responsible Business Alliance was convened at Asiawater 2016: UBM Asia, the organisers of Asiawater 2016 announced the formation of Asiawater Responsible Business Alliance to benefit those living in developing countries in Asia by providing them with safe drinking water and better sanitation facilities.
Headed by Dato' Teo Yen Hua, Former CEO of National Water Services Commission (SPAN) in partnership with public and private companies, government agencies and knowledge institutes involved in water technology, the alliance met on April 7 during the 9th edition of Asiawater to pledge that they will undertake activities individually and collaboratively for the betterment of life of the underprivileged to have access to clean water and sanitation.
M Gandhi, Managing Director for Asean Business of UBM Asia said: “As responsible corporate citizens and caring individuals in the water industry, I believe our contribution, no matter how little it may be and in whatever form possible, will spark greater empathy for others to follow.”
Dato' Teo Yen Hua, Former CEO of National Water Services Commission (SPAN) said, “I am honoured to be invited to chair this Alliance, as many of us tend to forget that there are still thousands of households in this region that do not have basic water supply and proper sanitation facilities.”
Asiawater 2016, which is supported by the Department of Water Supply (JBA), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) and the National Water Services Commission Malaysia (SPAN) comprised an exhibition, conference and seminar all held from 6–8 April at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event this year showcased an exhibitor line-up of over 829 companies featuring Actuators, Filters, Fittings, Meters, Pipes, Pumps, Tanks, Valves, Water Treatment and much more. The conference, which was supported by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage under the direction of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Malaysia, included key themes encompassing a wide range of thought-provoking papers delivered by an international panel of experts.
