Powtech 2013 Powtech 2013 in Nuremberg: the Mecca of Mechanical Processing
From April 23–25, 2013 the world of shaking, agitating, mixing and grinding will once again be in the limelight at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. 700 exhibitors from 26 countries will be powering up their machines and systems at Powtech as they showcase the latest processing technology, and up to 16,000 trade visitors have no intention of missing the action.
Mechanical processing plays an indispensible role in the process industry. Mixers, conveying machines and metering and filling systems are needed wherever raw materials, semi-finished goods or end products are present in the form of powder, granulate or bulk solids. Complete solutions are increasingly becoming the preferred choice. Plant engineering teams and operators no longer want the hassle of having to piece together separate pieces of equipment. What they are looking for is partial or complete solutions which include engineering, installation and commissioning.
That makes a visit to this year’s Powtech in Nuremberg all the more important for anyone who wants to keep up with the latest developments. Complete systems containing well-coordinated combinations of individual machines are becoming the solution of choice. In response, more than 700 exhibitors will be featuring turn-key systems, user-definable interfaces to other process stages and connectivity to process control systems.
Bulk and Powder Handling: Embedded Solutions Everywhere
Companies embed these solutions into the overall process flow, from the powder and bulk materials receiving dock and intralogistics to product storage in big bags and bulk silos. Mills, dispersing equipment and agitators naturally have their role to play. Visitors at the show will have the opportunity to explore the entire range of grinding and mixing technologies.
Besides special machinery such as colloid mills and mills for cryogenic grinding, the Powtech portfolio also includes lab and pilot-scale mills. Anyone walking around the show will notice the increasing tendency on the part of manufacturers to combine mixers with operations such as moistening and residue-free discharge of mixing apparatus. Chemical plants operators might also want to have a look at the latest filters and filter fabrics. The emphasis will be on particle separation, air purity and the purity of other gases. Axel Runge, President of Ruwac-Industriesauger, knows that performance, flexibility and cost are major priorities: “Users want systems that deliver high performance with low operating costs and have the flexibility to accommodate modifications as things change.”
The Beauty of Particles – News and Trends from R&D
Particles will be at the center of attention at the Partec Congress which will run in parallel with the exhibition. Over a 3-day period, 500 experts will share information on particle formation, particle characterization and the latest measurement methodologies at around 180 presentations. Numerous posters from the R&D departments on topics such as agglomeration, compacting and coating in industrial applications will provide food for discussion.
Back in the exhibition halls, visitors will be taking a look at the fixtures, fittings and rotary vane feeders which the manufacturers currently have on offer along with the latest weighing, filling and packaging equipment. Food industry professionals will be able to visit more than 230 exhibitors just in the dosing and weighing sector alone.
Instrumentation and Control are Highlight Topics at Powtech
Visitors interested in instrumentation and control will also find the show to be a rewarding experience. Flow and level metering as well as online particle analysis will be major themes. The event is also an automation engineering innovation show for system designers.
In addition, 50 exhibitors will be providing information on software solutions and process control systems which capture material flow data, ensure seamless traceability and provide connectivity to an ERP system from multiple locations. A world of process technology on a compact footprint will be waiting to be explored in the Exhibitor Forum in Hall 4. The industry will have the opportunity to share information there at the daily presentation sessions (10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).
Everything for Explosion Protection – Including Live Explosions
Explosion protection will be one of the top items on the agenda at Powtech. More than 30 exhibitors will be in Nuremberg to showcase the spark and fire detection solutions, advanced extinguishing systems, rupture discs, flame arresters and inertization systems. Emission protection and occupational safety products will also be on display.
The latest research results along with new products will be the major topics of discussion at the Index Safety Congress on Explosion Protection which will take place in parallel on April 24–25 at the NCC Ost Convention Center. The presentations will be given in English.
Last but not least, a live explosion will add emphasis to the explosion protection program. Explanations prior to and after the event will raise awareness of what can happen when hazardous materials are handled without due care. Explosions will take place daily at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Exhibition Park.
Ready for a Broader View?
The pharmaceutical industry will also be present at the Exhibition Center while Powtech is in progress. The headline theme of this year’s Technopharm is “Pharma.Manufacturing.Excellence“. Around 300 exhibitors will be highlighting the latest developments in technologies such as aseptic production, validation, GMP, packaging and anti-counterfeiting. Clean room technology will be highly visible and that should arouse the interest of powder and bulk material experts.
Specialised in Food, Drugs and Cleanroom
20 highly-specialized exhibitors along with an expert forum featuring presentations on cleanroom systems will create a critical technology mass at the Cleanroom Village in Hall 9. The main emphasis will be on compliance with FDA GMP requirements, practical routes to implementation in the EU and design for compliance. Visitors with a genuine interest in cleanrooms will have plenty of opportunity for business networking late in the afternoon at Village Hour.
Pharmaceutical companies such as CSL Behring and Boehringer Ingelheim will present best practice examples at the Cleanroom Congress which is organized jointly by APV and Concept Heidelberg. Innovation solutions for counterfeit-proof packaging will be on display at a special exhibition in Hall 6. The technology includes packaging machinery, traceability solutions, seals, labels and energy-efficient production. Anyone who does not want to miss this year’s industry highlights in mechanical process technology and aseptic production should mark the date for the Powtech/Technopharm doubleheader in their diaries.
