Biotech Park New Biotech Park in Northern India

Uttarakhand, on the slopes of the Himalaya mountains, shall become home of a new biotech park. The state's Biotechnology Department decided to set up new facilities to promote the local industry.

Dehradun/India – In its latest annual progress report, Uttarakhand's Biotech Department stated plans to establish a new biochemicals technology park in the mountainous area of the state of Uttarakhand. "Uttarakhand being particularly rich in biodiversity aims to convert its bio-wealth into economic wealth through the application of biotechnology by promoting industries based on the above and set up biotech park," states the report literally.

Insiders already speculate about the park promoting agro – farming and cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants in the state. It is regarded as probable that the park will house modern biotechnological facilities, including bio-incubators and basic infrastructure for production and researches. The report also includes plans to establish Centre of Excellence on Mountain Biology in Uttarakhand. The mountainous state in the Himalaya mountains has some of India's highest peaks, including the Nanda Devi (7816 meters).
