The Namur General Meeting highlighted the fact that it is often the small things that make a real difference. The number of off-the-shelf solutions will continue to decline. In the future, we are going to need innovative ideas, robust control systems and a supradisciplinary partnership between process and electrical engineering. This approach has worked very well in the positioner product space. Positioners are real workhorses in the chemical industry, and a good balance has been struck between rugged mechanical design and intelligent functionality. Virtually every application is a case on its own, and few positioners are exactly the same as any others. That is reason enough to dedicate a General Meeting to this product category. The theme at the next General Meeting, which will be held on November 8th - 9th, 2012 in Bad Neuenahr, will be “Actuator engineering - from hand throttle values to smart actuators".
