This concerns the processes between production and dispositive tasks as well as the processes throughout the life cycle of the system and processes in the value-adding networks between suppliers and customers. This is already done in other branches. Think of the media world or hotels.
Hotel portals have been set up for the guests in recent years — a complete change in customer access and business processes. Many of the new business models are driven by data. Sometimes, it is not said without any reason that the data is the “incense” of the new digital age or the 21st century.
Data Examples from Different Industries
For this purpose, a few examples — deliberately not from the limited area of process automation. During the operation of aircraft engines, substantial data is recorded and transferred online. Thus, the maintenance is optimized. When the aircraft lands, the service engineer is ready with the necessary spares.
Something that is profitable in aircraft turbines for long time, turns up for every machine: the connection with the Internet, operational data is entered in the Cloud; Analysis software makes profitable information from the data and the services for the customer depend on this information.
Online Analysis Thanks to Cloud Storage
An area, in which this operates dynamically, is building elevators. When elevators stop working, it is very annoying — we experience this on a daily basis. Now, these are connected with Internet, deliver operational data, the maintenance required is derived from this data and the maintenance is planned before the elevator stops working.
However, there are first interesting examples also in the process technology: Thus, co-operates GEA, one of the largest system providers for food products manufacturing industry with SAP while using “Hana-technology”. The data from centrifuges and from the systems of GEA is entered in the Cloud and is used by “Vibration Analysts”. All this is done with the objective of providing new services, including modular service level agreements and guaranteed machine availability.
