R. Stahl has launched a new generation of plug connectors with the Ex e and Ex d types of protection for quick connection of explosion-protected electrical equipment. As a solution that is particularly easy to mount and maintain, the modularly designed minicon series offers a wide range of options, which can be designed for in-line connection of portable control systems, electrical systems, moving machines, and drives, as well as camera and HMI systems, while requiring very few different parts.

The 8-pole plugs and couplings, which are designed for cable cross-sections from 0.25 mm² to 2.5 mm², guarantee a reliable power supply in voltage ranges for signal levels (24 V/0–4 mA) and for three-phase power supplies up to 500 V AC/16 A, as well as for connection to Profinet and all common bus systems, states the company. Electrical assemblies can be delivered fully prefabricated, wired and checked, enabling them to be commissioned at the operating location with minimum installation effort. The plug-and-play connection with patented snap lock can be connected and disconnected by a single person without needing any hot work permits, even under load – saving time and money, adds the firm.

Its hot-swap suitability significantly reduces downtime during maintenance work or when replacing devices and simplifies handling, especially at installation locations with particularly harsh or difficult environmental conditions. It also enables single-handed operation with work gloves, explains the company.

Users can choose between three different coding variants for adaptation to the different voltage levels. The plugs and couplings can be remounted to adjust the function, in order to reduce the mounting depth, for instance. According to the firm, the robust, long-lasting minicon plug connectors with IP 66/68 degree of protection are available in plastic or stainless-steel versions and are designed for an extensive temperature range from -60 to +75 °C.

They have been awarded ATEX and IECEx certifications for Zone 1 and 21, as well as culus approval for Class I, Div. 2 in the metal version, mentions the company. As a future-proof solution, they support digital data communication and the implementation of intelligently networked maintenance concepts. Available accessories include a range of different adapters, cable glands in Ex e and Ex i versions, and internal strain relief.
