Accordingly, biomarkers, as an enabling element within drug development, will experience explosive growth, increasing from a current US$ 13.5 billion to US$ 33.3 billion in 2015, a 19.8 percent compound annual growth rate for the forecast period. The increased application of biomarkers in nonclinical, clinical and point of care areas in addition to stratifying patient populations to increase targeted applications of medicine will drive the increase.
As a segment, therapeutic vaccines recorded US$ 19.3 billion in 2010, a figure that is expected to grow to US$ 31.9 billion by 2015. Treatment for infectious disease continues to advance, growing from a 2010 figure of US$ 86.5 billion to US$ 116 billion by 2015. Large and important areas including Hepatitis and HIV/AIDS are supposed to drive this increase.
