Major Plant Engineering Major Plant Projects to Grow in Asia
Major plant engineers look into the future cautiously optimistic. With orders for big plants coming in mainly from Asia and the Middle East, the engineering sector continuous to move eastwards.
With the fast development of the Asian economies and the transformation of the Middle East into a major petrochemical hub the bulk of orders for major plant projects currently comes from China, India, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, figures of the German engineering association VDMA indicate. At a recent press conference, the VDMA explained that a demand for big–scale projects exist mainly in populated or ressource producing countries.
Is Engineering Heading for an Asian Century?
“The industry has already reacted by setting up engineering, production and service infrastructure in Asia,” explained Helmuth Knaute, member of the board of Thyssen Krupp Uhde and speaker of the VDMA's large plant engineering workgroup. “It is now ready for the “Asian Century” ahead”. To stay competitive with foreign competitors that profit from political help, Western companies needed a reliable political framework, he added.
