Korea: Capacity Expansion Lotte Plans Major Debottlenecking for its Ethylene Plant in Yeosu

Lotte Chemicals of Korea plans to expand its ethylene production capacity at Yeosu by 200,000 additional tons per year. These plans would make Lotte one of the leading producers of ethane and ethylene, industry experts state.

Seoul/South Korea – The 300 billion won (around US $ 256.52 million) capacity upgrade shall raise the annual production capacity of Lotte at Yeosu from 1 to 1.2 million tons. Together with its facilities in Malaysia, Korea and the US, the Korean company will have a total ethylene output capacity of 4.5 million tons per year, making it the seventh largest ethylene in the world.

US$ 400-millionpropylene capacities of 100,000 tons as well as a new gas-turbine power plant at Yeosu. The new expansions shall be ready to use propane based feedstocks for petrochemical production to reduce the dependency on crude imports by utilizing ethane from Uzbekistan and US shale gas.
