Ammonia Synthesis KBR Supplies Chinese Coal-Chemicals Project

American expertise for China's future coal-chemical player? China National Coal choose KBR to supply the company's first chemical project, an ammonia synthesis plant in Inner Mogolia/China.

Houston/Texas – American engineering company KBR is busy on the Chinese market: after a license agreement for the company's proprietary phenol technology, KBR now provides the technology for two ammonia synthesis units of China National Coal in Inner Mongolia. Providing ammonia technology, process design package and technical services, the Texan engineering specialists will contribute to China National Coal's first chemical project in Tuke Industrial Park, Erdos, Inner Mongolia. The facility will be mainly supplied with coal from National Coal's mining project in the autonomous MInner Mongolia region. By establishing a coal-based petrochemicals business, China National Coal aims to expand the company's portfolio with coal-chemical products.

“We are pleased to be a part of China National Coal’s entry into the coal-chemical industry,” said John Derbyshire, President Technology. “This project allows KBR to showcase its superior Ammonia Synthesis Technology and promote our capabilities in this fast growing market segment.” According to company officials, KBR looks back on several hundreds of ammonia synthesis plants. The company also recently announced the lincensing of its proprietary phenol technology for a Chinese chemicals company.
