Automation Intrinsically Safe Interfaces, Specially Tailored for Network–I/O Modules

Pepperl+Fuchs continues its long-standing partnership with Yokogawa: The automation specialists have developed a completely new integrated ISBP system with clear benefits in the field of I/O modules for intrinsically safe applications. Especially with Yokogawa I/O systems, the new unit provides unprecedented flexibility.

The result of this cooperation, Pepperl+Fuchs' Intrinsically Safe Base Plate( ISBP) is a customized Termination Board for Yokogawa’s new N-IO devices for Centum VP integrated production control system. H-System HiC isolated barrier modules,with only 12.5 mm width, can be mounted along with Centum VP N-IO modules on the ISBP. An integrated ID ensures automatic detection, the manufacturer states.

The terminals are attached directly to the ISBP board for permanent wiring on the field side, providing a clean installation as well as simplifying installation and maintenance work. Therefor, all the wiring can be completed without an intrinsically safe module being installed.

This is particularly beneficial, as the N-IO from Yokogawa supports a completely new engineering approach that enables wiring to be completed before the signal type for a specific channel has been established. In addition, the modules are “hot swappable” without making any changes to the wiring, for a complete integrated solution.

Longstanding Cooperation Bears Fruit with ISBP

Pepperl+Fuchs has designed the ISBP to the dimensions of the Yokogawa’s I/O module, using the market leading 12.5 mm wide modules. This setup ensures a perfect fit in the planning grid of the corresponding standard cabinets, making it possible to accommodate 96 channels per row on DIN-rails 1500 mm long – a significantly higher number than that offered by comparable solutions available on the market, the company claims.

"Pepperl+Fuchs understand our requirements and those of our customers by making their backplane size the same height as Yokogawa standard N-IO backplane, to allow customers to maximize their cabinet space using Intrinsic Safety barriers.” ISBP can be ordered directly from Yokogawa, while all the intrinsically safe barrier modules are supplied by local Pepperl+Fuchsrepresentatives.
