Automation How New Technologies Help Plants Reduce Costs and Improve Security
Everybody aims to secure productivity while reducing risks and costs. Now Honeywell, a global leader in automation and process control, introduced several innovative technology solutions to attendees of the Honeywell India Users Summit, October 21-22, in Mumbai. These new solutions address critical plant operations and can be customized to a plant’s individual needs...
Mumbai/India – Themed ‘Safe. Reliable. Profitable.’, the summit introduced participants to the latest trends, technologies and best-practices in process control and automation to improve business performance, including cyber security assessments, plant audit services and a premium platform for Experion Virtualization Solutions. These technologies are designed to significantly impact a plant’s bottom line by improving safety, reliability and profitability and can be tailored to address the specific needs of different industries like refining and petrochemicals, oil and gas, pulp and paper, metals and minerals, and life sciences.
“Honeywell is committed to helping the Indian process industry achieve their business goals through transformational technologies that can improve the plant’s overall performance and create opportunities to do more with less,” said General Manager, Honeywell Process Solutions India, Mr Amitava Biswas. “With increasing connectivity, there is an immediate need for cyber security solutions that take a logical approach to managing the industrial IT lifecycle from assessment to assurance. At the same time, generating cost savings by using next generation solutions like virtualization is more important than ever.”
Technologies for Efficient Plant Operations
These technologies help customers build control system security, improve plant reliability and realize value through bottom-line benefits.
- Cyber Security Assessment - This thorough assessment of the process control network examines the cyber security posture of the facility and identifies strengths and deficiencies in processes, people and technology. It recommends best practices and a road map to address vulnerabilities found during the assessment. This service also helps companies align their security strategies with recommendations made in the National Cyber Security Policy, which requires all critical sector entities to implement periodic cyber security audits and global best practices. Commenting on the importance of this issue in India and the inclusion of it at this conference, Director General, Indian Computer Emergence Response Team (CERT-in), Dr Gulshan Rai said, “Due to the dynamic nature of the cyberspace, the Government has unified the various cyber security programs under a National Cyber Security Policy, with an integrated vision and a set of sustained, coordinated strategies for implementation. Policy makers, organizations and solution providers must work together to build necessary expertise and implement the policy to safeguard the business and process networks in critical assets.”
- Plant Audit Services - A comprehensive set of audit services helps to identify ways to improve the reliability and efficiency of a process plant. Similar to a thorough health-check, these services help identify areas that need attention with regards to people, process and the control system. The audit also recommends corrective action and can help the customer implement the necessary solutions to improve performance.
- Premium Platform for Experion Virtualization Solutions – A recent enhancement to Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) Orion, this solution leverages blade server technology to help customers reduce costs and improve productivity. The platform reduces setup time by up to 90 percent, generates up to 40% more energy savings and has 22% greater density than alternative virtualized server platforms. In addition, the platform has a longer lifecycle, reduced facility footprint and remote management capabilities.
