LB/FB Remote I/O Systems from Pepperl+Fuchs are used to connect NAMUR switching signals and solenoid valve outputs as well as temperature inputs, wire transmitters, proportional valves and positioners.

LB Remote I/O is installed in the safe area or Zone 2/Div.2, while the specially encapsulated FB Remote I/O can be installed in the safer Zone 1. Both systems employ the same electronic boards in their plug-in modules. Pepperl+Fuchs state to have modernized these units to comply with the latest Atex guidelines and standards. Nevertheless, also the newest versions remain compatible with existing field devices. The software has also been retained to ensure complete integration with established control systems. Standard industrial buses, such as Profibus, Modbus or Ethernet are available for the connection to master systems. According to Pepperl + Fuchs, the compact and redundant system backplanes help to save installation space and reduce operation costs. The extended intrinsic safety parameters facilitate new interconnections with ever more field devices. The redundant bases could even make additional hardware redundancy superfluous.
