German Chemical Industry Association Germany Again Top Chemical Exporter
The European soccer world is currently trying to figure out what it takes to win the European championship. Dr. Utz Tillmann, President of VCI (German chemical industry association), provided an emphatic answer to the championship question at Achema.
Last year, German chemical producers were able to defend their top position in the world export rankings and the prospects are good for retaining top spot again this year ahead of the US, Belgium and China. “Germany exported 150 million euros worth of chemical goods last year,” stated Tillmann who cited seven success factors which have kept Germany at the top of the world export rankings for years, nearly without challenge.
Besides the industrial valued-added chains where the chemical industry plays a key role as raw material supplier and driving force behind innovation, the close relationship between industry and research is another key factor along with the strong SME base which people sometimes tend to forget because the DAX-listed companies generally grab the headlines. Last but not least on the list is the chemical park concept, which is now being used as a model around the world.
