Refinery Revamp Contract Foster Wheeler Chosen for Refinery Revamp in Thailand

A subsidiary of the Swiss engineering contractor Foster Wheeler recently was chosen to revamp catalytic crackers at production plant of the Thai refinery operator Star Petroleum.

Zug/Switzerland – Foster Wheeler will work on front-end engineering design (FEED) for a revamp of Star Petroleum's residue fluidized catalytic cracking unit at a refinery (RFCCU) in Map Ta Phut, Thailand. Star Petroleum plans to improve improve on-stream reliability together with environmental and performance improvements.

Foster Wheeler will carry out the FEED for this major revamp, including licensor selection. The Swiss engineering specialists will also consult Star Petroleum in terms of maintenance and operating reliability. The excact terms of this contract remained undisclosed.

"This award reflects the winning combination of the in-depth technical expertise of our RFCCU consultants, our extensive portfolio of refinery turnarounds and revamp successes, and the local service delivery of our Sriracha operation," said Umberto della Sala, interim chief executive officer of Foster Wheeler AG. The Swiss company is currently already working on a Refinery Upgrade for Thai Oil at Sriracha, Thailand. "I am confident that, together with SPRC, we will develop a cost-effective and practical solution which meets our client's objectives." Revamp work at Map Ta Phut is expected to be finished in early 2012.
