Irving/USA — Fluor provided engineering, procurement and construction services for the 1.5-million-ton-per-year light-hydrocarbon cracker, which can use both ethane and propane as feedstock. Using a modular design approach to optimize on-site craft resources, the team also challenged industry norms to improve the design’s constructability in the field. The 3,000-plus craft workers achieved industry-leading quality and productivity levels to complete mechanical construction safely and on schedule in March 2017.

Industry veterans evaluated the Global Best Projects nominations on safety performance, innovations, challenges and design and construction quality, with a special emphasis on the diversity of global project teams and their collaboration.

In addition to the project being featured in the October 16 issue of ENR, the project team was recognized at an awards gala on October 23 in New York City.
