Russia: Plant Shutdown Fire Breaks Out at Moscow’s Oil Refinery

Due to the fire at Gazprom Neft’s oil refinery, an entire unit which is responsible for producing more than half of the plant’s gasoline output was shut. Also, post the incident, no casualties were reported at the plant.

Moscow/Russia – A fire broke out in Gazprom Neft’s oil refinery in Moscow on November 17, 2018. Due to this, the unit which produced more than half of the plant’s gasoline output was shut. In this background, fire crews battled for more than three hours before extinguishing the blaze at the refinery in the Kapotnya district, explained the emergency ministry.

Post the incident, Gazprom Neft stated that the refinery was working as usual apart from a catalytic cracking unit which was offline. According to the data by Thomson Reuters, the unit has a daily production capacity of 6,900 tonnes of gasoline which accounts for more than half of the gasoline produced by the plant. Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin also tweeted that the fire would not lead to any fuel shortages in the city.

The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of any casualties or injuries at the plant.
