On September 11, an explosion at Tüpraş İzmir Refinery killed four workers during maintenance work. The company states that a gas jamming in the floating roof naphta tank was the cause of the blast.
Izmir/Turkey — Five employees from the contractor company who were in charge of maintenance and control at the scene were affected by the explosion. After the first intervention from the Refinery Technical Safety teams, they were carried to the hospital by the Refinery Search and Rescue teams, the company said in a report on their website. Four severely wounded employees could not be saved, one of the employees suffered minor injuries.
On Thursday, news channel NTV reported, that seven people have been detained by Turkish authorities over the explosion.
The Izmir plant is one of four refineries operated by the company in Turkey. It has a crude oil processing capacity of 11 Million tons.
