According to the latest Cefic Chemicals Trends Report, EU chemicals production pushed further upwards in December, increasing 3.9 per cent compared with December 2009. As expected earlier, December figures were lower than November due to normal seasonal slowdown, resulting in a year-on-year annual growth rate of 10.1 per cent for 2010. The ‘standout’ sectors with strong growth in 2010 are polymers, basic inorganics, and petrochemicals. Polymers production rose by 15 per cent during the whole year 2010, compared to 2009. Basic inorganics and petrochemicals rose by 13.1 and 8.1 per cent respectively for the same full-year period.
