Houston/Texas/USA — Wood Group is providing process control systems, detailed engineering, procurement and fabrication services for the multi-billion dollar expansion project by Exxon Mobi Chemical Company at the Baytown and Mont Belvieu plants near Houston.
Exxon Mobi’s multi-billion dollar project will add an ethane cracker with capacity of up to 1.5 million tons per year of ethylene to the Baytown Olefins Plant and two new 650,000 tons per year polyethylene lines to its Mont Belvieu Plastics Plant. The project is the largest-ever investment in the U.S. by Exxon Mobi Chemical.
Wood Group Mustang’s (WG Mustang’s) Automation and Control business unit will performed the works. The multi-million dollar project scope includes procurement, integration and packaging of the distributed control systems, safety instrumented systems, analysers, information and telecommunications systems, and other associated equipment that will help the expanded plants to run safely, efficiently and within environment regulations.
“Exxon Mobi Chemical involved our team early in the project to establish interfaces and ensure alignment and cooperation with the EPC contractors,” explained Richard Seale, WG Mustang Automation and Control president. “This early engagement is resulting in a fit-for-purpose design that will ensure the automation systems provide Exxon Mobi Chemical with the best-possible operability and cost-effective solutions.”
