The TÜV Süd testing agency presents many services for renewable energies and smart grids, energy efficiency and energy management in industry – and also for safety and security in embedded systems.
Making smart grids in test laboratories more secure is one of the services on view at the TÜV Süd at its booth at the 2013 Hannover Fair.

In the energy field, TÜV Süd has the whole “energy generation – transmission – consumption” value-creation chain in view. This service provider supports photovoltaic power stations, for example, with a packet extending from planning or performance monitoring to installation optimisation. In addition, the network for testing photovoltaic modules and components is being widened – most recently with the addition of a laboratory in Straubing in Bavaria.
One prerequisite for spreading renewable energies is the upgrading of electricity networks to permit automatic control of generation and consumption. Decisive for the realisation of smart grids of this kind are the embedded measurement, control and regulation technologies, and also a standardised information exchange.
“Although the norm IEC 61850 provides a uniform communications standard,” says Maurizio Scavazzon, Product Manager for IEC 61850 in the Embedded Systems field at the TÜV Süd AG, “there are not yet enough devices designed in a corresponding way in the medium and low tension area.” As a UCA-accredited test laboratory and competence centre for IEC 61850, TÜV Süd supports device manufacturers in realising and documenting the communications requirements.
