The demand for accuracy of measurements has been on the rise in recent years, particularly in process and dispensing technology, to ensure that production processes achieve optimum quality and economy. It is these uses that the Siko developers had in mind when they developed a brand new product to display the adjustment position of axles and spindles. The result was the valve controller DK01, which was the foundation for further innovations and, consequently, for an entire family of Digiturn valve controllers. The one advantage they all have in common is that both the position adjustment and position reproduction functions are combined in one product.

Precise, repeatable process control in process technology

In the process technology industry in particular, the main benefit of a controller with integrated position display lies in simple reproducibility of the selected settings. For example, the gas mixture for the burner flame in a machine for the automatic production of glass bottles and bulbs may be controlled very efficiently using the Digiturn controllers. Furthermore, however, the torques which may be applied to the valve are also sufficient to dose, control and seal off materials as different as fluids of the widest range of viscosities, minerals, granules and even sand.

Compared to simple controllers with division scales, these controller can also precisely set and document each interim position due to the integrated digital or analogue display. Above all, for longer adjustment tracks of up to 100 rotations, the controllers demonstrate their strengths with high levels of accuracy and completion. Fine adjustments in process technology processes can therefore be repeated at all times with minimal set-up time. A compact, ergonomically shaped knurled knob and the DK01’s optionally available star knob ensure secure and precise positioning literally with one touch.

Compact design and flexible installation positions for optimum integration in processes and facilities

This is made possible by an innovative gear technology that also permits every installation position imaginable. The quill knobs are simply attached to the shaft end, just like a conventional simple controller, and fixed in place. The torque arm of the counter motor is placed in a small hole, and a stud is inserted in the connection to the spindle.

The counter motor technology is based on the position indicators, which have been tried and tested millions of times in mechanical engineering, and therefore guarantees a long lifespan in demanding ambient conditions. As a result of the technical principle of the controllers, which is to combine the handwheel as an operating element and the position display in one device, the design is compact, with an external diameter of only 36 mm in the DK01, for example. These are important conditions to ensure particularly efficient and space-saving constructions with a clear design in which an overview is not adjusted by a handwheel.
