Combining the Freeman patented blade methodology for measuring flow energy with a range of shear cells, wall friction modules and other accessories, the FT4 can determine flowabilities in relation to each of the factors that affect flow properties. Freeman believes that the measurement data of the FT4 can provide valuable insights for process optimisation, product understanding and helps to accelerate R&D processes.

The optimal approach for powder assessment is firstly to use testing methodologies that provide reproducible data and secondly to evaluate flow performance in ways that relate to powder behaviour in real industrial processes, the company states. This includes quantifying the effects of consolidation, vibration, segregation, moisture uptake, fines, aeration, flow rate, air entrainment and a number of other factors, a methodology that has wide application in the formulation, processing and quality control sectors of most powder processing industries.
