Japan: Electric Mobility Asahi Kasei Launches Electric Concept Car
Asahi Kasei and GLM announced the completion of a jointly developed electric concept car called Akxy, which combines various automotive-related materials and technologies from its businesses.

Tokyo/Japan — Asahi Kasei and GLM began discussions and planning for development of the concept car in 2015. The car utilizes the electric vehicle platform of GLM and is based on the design of an SUV.
The chemical company combines its own automotive-related materials, devices, and systems in this car. The group addresses Japanese and overseas automobile manufacturers and parts manufacturers with their auto parts. Ashai Kasei claims that most of the 27 integrated components would be available for adoption in mass-produced vehicles, including engineering plastics to replace metal and enable vehicle weight reduction, artificial suede for seats with superior comfort, and an in-car communication system utilizing various speech-processing technology.
The concept car named Akxy will be on display at the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2017 Yokohama, May 24–26, 2017 as well as at the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2017 Nagoya, June 28–30, 2017.
The Group emphasised its intention to deepen connections with automotive-related customers.
