Refinery Upgrade Amroco Chooses Sofcon to Excecute Refinery Upgrade in Saudi-Arabia

Sofcon, a joint venture of Swiss Foster Wheeler and A. Al-Saihati, A. Fattani & O. Al-Othman Consulting Engineering, was selected to work on process improvements for a Saudi Amroco refinery. The objective of thsi refinery revision is to reduce sulfur and benzene contents in the produced gasoline.

Zug/Switzerland – Saudi Arabian oil company Amroco awarded Sofcon a front-end engineering contract including project management services for the implettion of its Clean Transportation Fuels Project at the refinery in Riyadh. The exact contract value remained undisclosed.

According to Foster Wheeler the engineering contract includes the installation of new isomerisation, naphtha splitting and sulfur guard-bed units as well as the addition of new equipment, including a diesel hydrotreater reactor, in existing installations. Debottlenecking and the upgrade of control and monitoring systems is also an important part of Sofcon's scope at Riyadh.

In a joint statement, Umberto della Sala, Interim Chief Executive Officer, Foster Wheeler, and Ala'a Fattani, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sofcon, said, "We have been involved in this project from its early stages and are delighted to receive this latest award from Saudi Aramco.
