”The data acquisition parameters temperature and pressure along with valve technology have been standardized to a large extent in the process industry. That is why the chemical industry issued recommendation NE131 which contains guidelines for standard operation of flow and level measurement equipment, something which customers had been asking for. Endress+Hauser recently implemented the recommendations in its new 2-wire flow metering and level measurement systems. The new concept simplifies operation of more than 30 different meters using seven different physical measurement principles. It is based on a number of industry standards and internal Endress+Hauser standards which offer many advantages to users.”Carsten Schulz, Level Sensing Systems Product Management, Endress+Hauser

ACHEMA 2012 is already casting its shadow. Just half a year still to go before the event gets underway, exhibitor bookings of the exhibition group “Instrumentation, Control and Automation Techniques” have been already well above the final total for 2009; the general mood in the industry is upbeat. Level measurement is a standard technique in the chemical industry. It may only represent a small portion of the automation spectrum, but it has a propensity for technical innovation. PROCESS reveals which themes and technologies are at the top of the agenda for suppliers of level measurement systems as ACHEMA approaches - see the gallery.
