For the 6th year, the trade journal PROCESS presented the Innovation Award in recognition of ingenious new or enhanced technologies. Prizes were awarded in six categories during a ceremony at Powtech 2013.

The Powtech and Technopharm doubleheader was a genuine mecca of mechanical process technology again in 2013. 959 exhibitors put their latest equipment and systems on display for more than 16,800 trade visitors in Nuremberg/Germany, covering the full range of production, processing, conveying, filling and storage operations for powder, granulate, etc. This year's Powtech was the perfect platform for presenting the 6th Innovation Award. On the first day of the show, PROCESS placed outstanding innovation in the limelight at a ceremony held at the Exhibitor Forum in Hall 6.

”Innovation is alive and well,” reported Editor-in-Chief and Publisher Gerd Kielburger with reference to the 52 submissions. Acting as moderator in front of an audience of more than 100 guests who were waiting in suspense, Kielburger highlighted the industry’s continued ability to come up with new solutions which offer significant benefit to the user despite the existence of techniques and equipment which have been in use for many years.

For the submissions to be accepted, the innovations had to be on display at the show, available for purchase and not older than 12 months. Innovation, cost-efficiency, existing applications / test & pilot projects and presentation were the criteria used by the jury to judge the entries. Innovation and cost efficiency were given significantly higher weighting than the criteria existing applications / test & pilot projects and presentation. The 14 members of the jury selected Innovation Award winners in six categories:

  • Basic Powder and Bulk Solids Processing
  • Equipment Manufacturing and Process Components
  • Particle / Material Analysis and Characterization
  • Instrumentation / Automation
  • Filling / Packaging Technology
  • Pharma / Cleanroom Technology

The jury would have liked to present an award in the Energy Efficiency category. However to maintain the integrity of the Award, the journalists decided that not enough entries had been submitted for them to select a winner worthy of the prize. Also, the categories Pharmaceutical Technology and Cleanroom Technology were combined to provide a sufficient number of entries.
