BASF launches new Keroflux plant

BASF has started up a new Keroflux plant at its Ludwigshafen site. The Keroflux brands are refinery chemicals and so-called cold flow improvers. They make sure that fuel and diesel continue to flow and do not solidify even at winter temperatures.

Flow improvers ensure that diesel vehicles start reliably even in very cold conditions and that fuel oil can still be pumped at low temperatures.

The existing production process was optimized when the plant was taken into operation. In the new system, the feedstocks for the complex product formulations are now piped directly to the component tanks, from where they can be mixed directly and filled into tank trucks. The speeding up of the process also means that the production capacity of Keroflux can be increased.

"Our investment in the new Keroflux plant has strengthened the existing production structure for refinery chemicals at the Ludwigshafen site“, explains Rüdiger Mackenthun, Head of Global Business Unit Automotive and Refinery Chemicals. "For our customers, the new plant therefore means that we will be able to meet specific requirements even more flexibly in the future. In addition, we will be in a position to provide our customers with newly developed, innovative products even faster."

Tailor-made solutions are particularly important for the petroleum industry, since production systems in the various refineries worldwide vary considerably. In addition, it is important that the product characteristics of diesel and fuel oil meet the specifications laid down even if there is a change in the quality of the crude oil to be processed.
