Technip wins biodiesel contract in Malaysia Technip has been awarded a contract to provide assistance in the detailed engineering of the fatty acids methyl ester transesterification unit for a biodiesel production plant to be located at the port of Kuantan, Malaysia. The project will be executed by Mission Biofuel as investor, KNM as contractor and Axens as licensor. The unit will produce 250,000 tons of biodiesel per year from palm oil. It is scheduled to go into production in the third quarter of 2008. Technip's operating center in Kuala Lumpur will execute this contract with assistance from the Group's operating center in Paris, which already built six production units in this sector of activity. Transesterification is a chemical reaction during which a fat or oil is reacted with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst. Biodiesel or Diester, obtained by the transesterification of vegetable oils, is used in a mixture with diesel oil for diesel engines. |
