Reduction of energy consumption in process plants means more energy efficiency. It reduces resources in (say) chemical or pharmaceutical plants in general. By doing process automation professionally, we are helping our customers reduce resources, which leads to energy saving and prevents environmental degradation.
PROCESS India: What is your comment on the competition in the Indian automation market?
KAUL: Globally, the available figures show that Siemens is the leader in the industrial automation market. Within India too, we are in a leading position. Yes, there are many competitors present. Competition leads to further innovation. We always believe in fair market play and practices. It is always interesting to have competition, it helps the customers.
PROCESS India: What kind of change in Indian customers’ mind-sets are you finding nowadays?
KAUL: In the last three or four years, much more openness to the latest technologies is clearly visible. In general, a positive attitude or keenness to acquire the latest automation technologies is growing. Also, there is an effort to be fit for the global market. The customers are gaining more and more knowledge, so they are not only open for latest technologies – but also demanding what they actually need. They are talking with comparative statements to get the best at the lowest possible cost.
PROCESS India: What is your observation on the movement of automation cost graph?
KAUL: I will always say that we could do better with higher price levels. But the point is – with the passage of time, the customer is getting more and more value for the money he is spending.
Let us take an example of our ‘contactors’. What used to occupy a large space yesterday, today the same contactor takes much smaller space. The time required to fix the wire has also reduced drastically.
PROCESS India: What is your suggestion to the potential Indian process automation aspirants?
KAUL: Keep being demanding, and be sure that you are choosing the right partner. Also, always consider a long-time partner.
