The academic distance-learning study programme “Pump Engineer” has been started into its 7th season this summer. It provides profound knowledge on pumps and pump systems within approximately 50 days of training. The graduates have the best opportunities in the industry. Following international demand, now, a course in English will start in March 2012.

For numerous industries such as water and sewage treatment, chemical and procedural, refineries and power plants as well as food, paper and pharmaceutical industry, sound know-how on pumps and systems is becoming more and more important. Especially energy efficiency is increasingly in focus, whereby pumps are said to consume 12.6 percent of the power consumption in the EU. And, as pump systems are often largely oversized, vast savings may be achieved by merely optimizing them.

Highly qualified pump experts are not only wanted by pump manufacturers for distribution, conception, marketing and development but also by engineering and production companies performing planning, operating, servicing and maintenance. However, the number of experts available is not sufficient to cover the demand.

This in mind professors at the TU Graz, the TU Berlin, the University of Erlangen as well as pump operating and manufacturing experts of German chemical Industry formed the study programme “Pump engineer”. In this programme, specific knowledge on how to design and operate pumps and systems is provided by specific training modules. Target groups are engineers having graduated at universities but also technicians and foremen, who are dealing with pumps and industrial process plants in their professional life.
