A system replacement performed as hot transfer under refinery operating conditions: Sten Joseph, Project Manager, Total Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland talks about the challenges and goals.
Total Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland (TRM) has used an electrical control system for electrical network and consumer management since startup of the refinery. This system acts as a subsystem for electrical validation of consumer switch requests between the distributed control system and the motor control center which are installed in electrical switchboards. Because of availability problems and obsolescence declarations for hardware and services, TRM started a project to replace this system by using I/A series and Triconex technology as an integrated part of the overall DCS. The objective is to use DCS standard system components with already established service and engineering know-how. Sten Joseph, Project Manager at TRM gives a résumé.
