Dr. Wilhelm Otten, Head of Process Technology & Engineering, Evonik Technology & Infrastructure, Chairman of Namur: „Standardized, intelligent interfaces are crucial success factors to the benefits of industry 4.0 in the process industry. They are the basis making our core processes, supply chain and asset management as well as the ‘vertical’ integration more efficient. FDI is a great step to automatically integrate field devices into automation systems with standardized, manufacturer-independent tools and procedures. The technology will simplify the work of our automation technicians, avoid individual manual integration effort, saves money and increases security and availability. To achieve long-term benefits, certifications (host systems and device packages) as well as the implementation of an open vendor-neutral interface (OPC UA) are the decisive steps. The Namur as an international user association of automation technology in the process industry has pushed these activities to merge the existing standards and tools. Namur will promote and implement FDI.“
