How to Avoid the RVP Noose

New emission regulations tighten the noose for refinery operators in the US: If companies want to keep production levels, they have to act now. Future standards will target both, products and production processes – not to mention the challenge that light oil poses…

Future regulations call for action now: The new regulation limits for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have set their sights on a number of pollutants – among them ozone, a  common by product of refining processes as well as hydrocarbon fuels.
The EPA has announced to cast an eye on so called ‘stationary emissions’ like those from production processes – posing a distinctive challenge for refineries, well documented sources of ozone emissions. At the same time, the increased use of domestic light oil crude means that feedstock supplies will become even more volatile in the future.
 
We take a closer look at several solutions to overcome this challenge and see, how these measures affect productivity and economic viability. How do we manage gasoline RVP against physical and commercial limits?
