Multi-column for lower costs

The BioSC chromatography process for downstream processing of biopharmaceuticals improves throughput up to fourfold without compromising product quality or yield, claims developer Novasep. BioSC (Biopharmaceutical Sequential Chromatography) is a multi-column system that breaks the “downstream processing bottleneck”, enabling biopharmaceutical firms to significantly increase both productivity and flowrate while dramatically decreasing water use compared to conventional batch column chromatography. BioSC reduces the number and size of current process steps by using the working capacity of the stationary phase more efficiently and providing full automation. BioSC can accommodate the higher titers produced by modern upstream cell cultures while delivering continuous processes that maximize production efficiency and minimize product delays. “BioSC provides an easy-to-implement, reliable solution to dramatically reduce the cost of downstream processing by 60 percent,”said Stephen Tingley, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Novasep Process Biopharma. “BioSC lowers costs by reducing the production volumes of expensive stationary phase media, buffer solutions, water, capital equipment, specialized personnel and related manufacturing infrastructure,” he added.
