Foster Wheeler wins Italian revamp

– Foster Wheeler Italiana has won an engineering, procurement, and construction management contract from Italian company Saras to revamp a mild hydrocracking unit at the Sarroch refinery in Sardinia. The project is part of a larger refinery upgrade. The award follows Foster Wheeler’s completion of the front-end engineering design for the hydrocracker revamp and the procurement of major items. The objectives are to increase the capacity, performance and conversion of the mild hydrocracker, and to extend catalyst life. The revamp includes major modifications to the reaction section, including a new pretreat reactor, an upgrade to the gas compression circuit, and a new high-pressure amine wash section. “We are very pleased to be awarded this revamp project by Saras,” said Marco Moresco, CEO of Foster Wheeler Italiana. “We have been working with Saras for a number of years at this refinery. Under an alliance-type framework agreement with Saras we have developed a strong, successful and cooperative working relationship with our client.” “The upgrading of our refinery at Sarroch, one of Europe’s largest and most complex refineries, is proceeding at a fast pace,” said Saras general manager Dario Scaffardi. “This latest award to Foster Wheeler demonstrates our continued satisfaction with its professionalism and expertise.”
