Innovative technologies made by Bayer

Bayer Technology Services was created in the course of restructuring the Bayer Group into four operative subgroups and three services entities under the roof of the management holding company Bayer AG. The legally independent service company plans to become a larger player in the global engineering sector. It focuses mainly on process development and improvement, planning and construction of new production facilities, and provision of consulting services to customers during product development and optimization. Among its services are the developing of platform technologies in areas such as high-throuhput screening and conducting feasibility studies for investors, banks and plant owners.

Most of its customers are currently other operations within the Bayer group. Last year, 45 of its 690 million Euro in sales were to external companies. “We hope to increase sales to outside companies to at least 80 million Euro within the next three years”, says Dr. Wolfram Wagner, Managing Director of Bayer Technology Services GmbH. We are in the middle tier of international engineering companies at present, but we hope to move up to a higher level in the sector.”
The new company has been involved in the design, procurement and construction of most Bayer’s recent major projects worldwide. These include the very capital intensive isocyanates and other polyurethane raw material units in Baytown, Texas, in the US and in Caojing, Peoples Republic of China, where the company is working on its large integrated chemical site worth over three billion Euro upon completion. Since the beginning of the 1990s the company has invested more than 350 million Euro into 14 production sites in China. The next stage will be the piling for the first high-tech Polycarbonate Unit in Caojing.
Bayer Technology Services has selected China to become its Asian headquarter and founded Bayer Technology Services (Shanghai) Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd. The nucleus of today’s 40 employee office supported Bayer’s 14 sites all over China since the beginning of the 1990s. Today strong and reliable relations to competitive mechanical shops allow to purchase high tech equipment such as high pressure vessels for hazardous media through this regional office. And in the near future the Shanghai branch begins to offer environmental technologies to third parties services in China.
