Achemasia 2004

ACHEMASIA – International Exhibition-Congress on Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology will take place from 11 to 15 May 2004 for the sixth time in Beijing/PR China. Since the first in 1989 it has developed to become the leading exhibition-event in Asia for the chemical processing industries, for equipment suppliers, plant engineers and technology suppliers.

Despite economic and political crises China People’s Republic is still one of the world’s fastest growing regions. Chinese industrial production in July 2003 was 16.5% higher than in the year before. For 2003 a growth of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) of 8% is to be expected. Direct foreign investment in China is very high and this supports the economic growth. China has long since shaken off Japan, its direct rival in trade with the USA and the EU. The total export of goods and services from China in 2001 was US$ 266 billion, the imports were US$ 244 billion with increasing tendency. The export of German goods rose over the period January 2003 to May by 30%. The value of these exports at 7 billion Euro not far below the value of the imports from China of 9.8 billion Euro.

The machinery and chemical equipment industries are profiting at present from these economic conditions. In the priority sectors set by the Chinese economy – chemical industry, pharmaceutical engineering, petrochemistry, food technology, biotechnology and environmental protection – there is a serious need for equipment, technologies and know-how. ACHEMASIA offers the best possible show case for the equipment provision sector and for new contacts and new collaborative ventures to be built up and expanded. In 2004 more than 400 exhibitors from about 25 countries and 20.000 visitors are expected. The ACHEMASIA has a much more international character than any comparable event and is especially important for China.
As the event organizer, DECHEMA (Society for Chemical
Engineering and Biotechnology, Germany) is preparing for ACHEMASIA in close cooperation with its Chinese sister society CIESC (Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China), with CCATA (China Chemical Anticorrosion Technology Association), with CCPIT-CIEC (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade – China International Exhibition Centre), with Chinese ministries and with some 20 further high-level specialist technical organizations from within Asia and throughout the world.
High technology, technology transfer, modernization and the expansion of present capacity are the foundations that China is using on the way to being a global player. This will open up huge opportunities not only for large international companies but also specifically for smaller and medium-sized companies and service providers.
