Creating new capacity
Biotechnology production: fermentation lines for handling between 20 and 1000 liters

In March 2003, Strathmann Biotec AG’s Biotechnology Center in Dengelsberg/Germany began operations. Around 50 employees are ready to produce medicines and active ingredients for external customers at the facility, which cost 25 million Euro to build.
Everyone in the industry knows why the outlook for job production services is currently so good. By 2005, about 40 billion Dollar in revenue will be lost as patents expire. This will force companies to bring new products to market quickly. Many producers will not be able to do this with their own resources, so they are looking for external capacity. However, suitable biotechnology production facilities with a comprehensive range of approvals are hard to find. Dr. Götz Strathmann, Chairman of Strathmann Biotec AG, told us that the company intends to position itself in the top echelon in this industry. The foundation has already been put in place. Production is currently getting underway at the new Dengelsberg Biotechnology Center. cGMP-compliant production units with fermentation lines providing a capacity of between 20 and 1000 liters are available on 4500 m2 of floor space. The production facility complies with all government requirements (FDA and EMEA).
