Scale it up!
Depth filtration from laboratory scale right up through process-size solutions

It is becoming increasingly common for intensive discussion about the depth filtration process step to take place in the development phase of pharmaceutical products. To achieve consistent, reproducible results in the production process, the right depth filter medium must already be selected as early as the laboratory scale stage.
The goal of depth filtration is to ensure required particle retention throughout the entire filtered volume. This is particularly important when critical factors are involved such as
chemical resistance to the product being filtered. Significant optimization potential can also be exploited at this early stage, which can increase the efficiency of the depth filtration process step. Regulatory requirements such as FDA and USP conformance of the depth filter medium must also be taken into account.
