Liquid-liquid centrifuges have been in use for many years in both the GMP and non-GMP processing of drugs and intermediates. Nevertheless, classical centrifuge designs are often rejected in favor of simpler methods, i.e. stirred decant tanks or mixer-settlers. In some centrifuges, high quality surface finishes are either unavailable or prohibitively expensive.
