Fluor to build polysilicon plant

Xinyu/PR China – Fluor Corporation has been awarded a contract to provide front-end engineering and design (FEED) and engineering, procurement and construction-management (EPCM) services for a polysilicon plant for LDK Solar in Xinyu/PR China. The total contract is in excess of $1 billion, with FEED work booked in third quarter 2007 and EPCM to be booked in 2008 upon full release. “With this new facility, LDK Solar will be able to meet the world’s growing demand for polysilicon,” said Xiaofeng Peng, chairman and chief executive officer of LDK Solar. Fluor offices in Greenville/USA and Shanghai will execute the work. Site preparation has begun for the polysilicon production plant that will be located adjacent to LDK Solar’s existing solar wafer manufacturing facilities in Xinyu. LDK Solar has announced plans to complete construction and reach production capacity of up to 6,000 metric tons of polysilicon by the end of 2008 and 15,000 metric tons by the end of 2009.

David Seaton, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group, is honored that LDK Solar selected Fluor for this major project.
