Top performers

“There are a lot of engineering companies around the world, but very few can access the wealth of experience and cross-functional know-how that we have.” With this conviction in mind, a new team is joining the fray in the major league of global engineering companies.
Wolfram Wagner is the CEO at Bayer Technology Services (BTS), which emerged as a legally independent service company during restructuring of the Bayer Group. He sees his company as a “specialist with a generalist’s outlook” which is well equipped to take on top performing competitors like Uhde, Linde, Lurgi, Shell Global Solutions, Foster Wheeler and Kvaerner. BTS remains at the customer’s side throughout the entire investment process, from identification of project basics and pre-planning, through basic and detail engineering, right up to installation and commissioning. The company can point to a worldwide presence and reference projects distributed throughout the world, essentially polymer projects which by nature are very capital intensive and distributed around the globe.
BTS made its debut at Achema this year, which was without doubt the perfect setting for a major appearance. You can read more about the ambition plans of the Bayer subsidiary on page 28. Three months have passed since the Achema presentation platform closed its doors, but the pleasant aftereffects are still clearly evident. During the entire fair week, there was something permeating all of the exhibition groups which the process industries had been looking for with near desperation: an unexpected positive mood on the part of both visitors and exhibitors. Many of you who are reading this editorial were probably there, either as one of the 3,819 exhibitors from 48 countries or one of the 192,161 visitors from more than 100 countries, and you undoubtedly share our view. Achema gave us the feeling of success that our industry had been hoping for, and the fair was everything that we had expected. One of the aftereffects for us here on the editorial staff is the inclusion of an in-depth review packed with selected new products which starts on page 16 of this issue. One thing is clear. Achema remains the undisputed leader in the world league of trade shows and events for the chemical and process industries. As for Bayer Technology Services – it still has to play and win some crucial games to get to the top of its league where points are scored by landing big contracts from the chemical-pharmaceutical industry.
