Italian Sensitron Gas Detection has developed a new hybrid gas sensor technology: To offer additional safety for industrial application, Sensitron’s hybrid technology combines two sensors in the same head.
As each of the two sensors uses a different detection technology but is calibrated to measure the same gas (for example via IR-Cat), the system combines the strength of to measurement methods in one. Signals received from the sensors are constantly monitored and processed by a microprocessor to supply an output with the highest of the two readings, thus guaranteeing top rapidity and reliability of detection.
This feature is especially important in harsh and aggressive environments where the risk of poisoning one of the two sensors is high, the manufacturer states. The hybrid–sensor technology is used in Sensitron's new Smart-SIR detectors, a family of Atex and SIL2/3-approved gas detctors and sensors.
