Foster Wheeler Works on Refinery Expansion

Foster Wheeler will provide a large solvent deasphalting unit for a recent refinery expansion project in Oman.

Zug/Switzerland; Maskat/Oman – Foster Wheeler will provide a basic engineering design package for a solvent deasphalting (SDA) unit in Oman, through its cooperation with Honeywell's UOP. The award by Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals (Orpic), covers an important step in Orpic's recent Sohar Refinery Expansion Project.

The company aims to expand the production capacity for petroleum products such as LPG, naphtha, Jet A-1 fuel, gasoline, diesel and propylene at the Sohar Refinery. The SDA that Foster Wheeler will work on shall process 2.5 million metric tonnes of vacuum residue of Oman Export Blend crude per year to produce Deasphalted Oil (DAO) and asphalt for road bitumen production. Full productivity of the SDA is expected for 2015.
