Bayer is taking a new direction in the production of polyurethane with the help of carbon dioxide from the energy sector. But is this the only source to use? A pilot plant has come on stream at Chempark Leverkusen to trial the new process on a technical scale. Bayer is working on the project with the energy company RWE, which supplies the carbon dioxide used in the process. Dr. Tony Van Osselaer who is responsible for production and technology at Bayer Material Science talks about the possibillity to use other sources as well, for example biogas.
