On Friday, June 22nd, the 30th ACHEMA closed dafter five days of exhibition and exchange. Around 170.000 visitors from all over the world attended an exhibition that was the most international ACHEMA so far with more than 50 percent of foreign visitors.

German industrial association DECHEMA, organisers of the ACHEMA trade fair and exhibition, reported a positive outcome of this year’s leading event for the process industries: With more international guests and exhibitors and a slightly increased exhibition space, ACHEMA 2012 ended after five successful days.

The exhibition mirrors the development of the chemical industry: A strong growth on the emerging market is reflected in double digit growths in numbers for Chinese and Indian companies. But also from South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey and Poland came significantly more participants to Germany, Dr. Michael Thiemann, head of the ACHEMA committee, explained.

Crisis Overshadows Upbeat Exhibition

The upbeat feeling of the exhibition was, nevertheless, overshadowed by the unsolved issues of energy transition, the search for bio based raw materials or the sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone.

The transition towards biomass as both a source of energy as well as a raw material for the chemical industry was addressed at ACHEMA with the focus topic “Bio-Based World”: the exhibition presented technologies for renewable resources, biofuels and sustainable production but also host discussions about the ongoing transition within the industry.
